Fashion Friday: House of Harlow.... Delicious.

As if it wasn't enough that Nicole Richie is adorable beyond belief, stylish as fuck, a generous humanitarian, mother of two beautiful babies AND has a wicked sense of humor... Her jewelry line House of Harlow 1960 has us drooling and lusting after pretty much every single piece.

Miss Richie... today, we salute you and your fantastic taste.
We also thank you for making beautiful things that real people can afford.

It is like House of Harlow 1960 takes every fashion loving, hippie girl dream we ever had and brings them to life...

It is amazing how easy Nicole Richie makes it for us all, just go on line or pop into a store, buy a piece of her jewelry... Done! Casual, carefree radness is yours.

Jeans and a floaty t-shirt paired with her designs are just as easy as dressing up in a pretty dress and your new House of Harlow "Childlike Empress" crown.

This post was inspired by two pieces... Two cuffs to be exact, that made us squeal like N.K.O.T.B fans when we saw them.

First of all.... WHAT THE F-ING F*?!
A wrap around peacock cuff? Out of control!

And then a few days later we saw this one....

Shut the front door! No seriously... SHUT IT! A cuff that looks like a letter with a wax seal? With a double feather crest? Are you even kidding us? Like seriously... Seriously?

It looks even better on! We can not wait to add this to our jewelry boxes.

House of Harlow does delicate too... Like these fantabulous stackable horseshoe bangles.
These look so pretty stacked.

Let me tell you, it was really hard not to buy everything we found while researching this post... But Valentines day IS just around the bend, so hopefully our honeys read this.

Fantastic statement making tigers eye ring that you will wear every SINGLE day, please meet our readers.

Readers, please meet our friend the $75 dollar wonder ring, this little baby can be all yours.... Just click here. You know you want it.

We can't get over how much we heart these red cuffs....
There is something so Wonder Woman sexy about them.

So, we are going to get to how crazy we are about this key ring... But first, we have to mention that this picture makes us feel WAY better about missing our last trip to the nail salon. YIKES!

But, bitchiness aside (for now) we really, really, really love this ring!

We really also wish we looked like this...

Nicole, Thank you for all the yummy inspiration. We are so happy for you, and so happy for all of us that we get to indulge ourselves in your designs.

Lets not even get into the shoe-gasams that are headed our way when House of Harlow shoes come out.

We will leave you guys with this advice...
Play dress up everyday... Never give up your fantasy of being a Flower child or a Ballerina , or even one of the Lost Boys... Those dreams and visions from your youth become your fashion statements today.

Decor to Die For: We heart SS...Soft Storage

Sometimes you just can't put everything away....there are simply not enough closets or drawers in the world to house all of your (crap) stuff. Right?...Yes?

But what do you do when you have endless magazines...pillows....slippers...linens...toys...etc with no home except just sitting out for you to stare at or trip over?

You can buy baskets from Cost Plus (we love it but they haven't got new baskets for 20 years) and throw everything in there
OR
You can get into the newest and cutest and (to us) most chic form of In Your Face Storage (INFS)...Soft Storage!

Some call them baskets...but when the ladies of Things We Heart think of baskets we automatically go here....

Uh huh...exactly.

Nope...these are not "baskets" these are soft storage....

So chic yet totally relaxed...
we heart you Miss Stewart for keeping us organized

These amazingly nautically cute SS baskets from PB are perfect for every single person and or room in your house hold...

They come in tons of colors and can be monogramed or personalized to help keep you even more organized!

Hi there crazy chic boiled felt storage bin! You would look spectacular in our bedroom...next to our fireplace...in a kids room...holding books or flowers...
Only DWR would make SS soooo sleek and modern (and $$$) But that grey is the perf background to make colors POP!

Now for the SS that inspired this (late) post....

We uuuubbbber heart this recycled SS bag from Henry Road... Can't wait to put it in the living room to hold misc. things instead of that yucky '90s metal bin thingy....

Don't let the cute lil girly toys fool you with this next SS bin...
Your closet or bathroom is screaming for a few of these... Put your bras, undies, hair dryers, hand towels...you name it, in these great SS boxes...

Why should your house have all of the fun? Doesn't your car need lurve too???

Throw one of these great foldable SS baskets in the back of your whip and you are GTG and uber organized! Mom would be soooo proud!

Cuteness does not begin to describe this elephant SS from 3 Sprouts...

Random Hearts: early 90's jams that you love!

Today, we are bringing it back with cheesy music that you can't help but love!

Songs that even if you didn't like them then.... You LOVE them now..... Truth be told you loved them then! Don't lie.

O.K some are really bad, you may still hate them!

Let's take it back into the 90's people.

Slow Jams A'la Arsinio Hall!
Love the jackets fellas...

Awwww yeah!

Remember when they used to show videos after 90210?!
you know that you loved some Shanice!

Miss Me had the Pebbles cassette! LOVE this jam.

Are you a naughty girl? Do you need love too?

Everybody dance now....

Twins??? We were not aware of the horrible genius of this song when we were young, wait, correction... It's just really horrible.
(Great Halloween costume though!)

We are gonna leave you with this, because this song drove us up the wall! But it is really catchy!
Thanks for taking this trip with us.

Yummies: It's like buttah...we heart that fattening sunshine colored deliciousness

So at a shmancy restaurant last night...while (delicately) stuffing our glossy lips with warm bread coated in golden salty butter, it happened....

"OMFG this butter is amazing!!!!!"
"Ooohhhh let's post about our love for butter!"

Yes...it may be 100% dairy fat but holy moly it's worth every creamy bite! But please...don't eat it straight from the stick...well unless you "accidentally" get a bit on your knife and just happen to dip that into peanut butter...just sayin'

We sooo wish butter was good for you and didn't contribute to heart disease!!! But I bet if it was good for us...it wouldn't taste nearly as good :)

So let's use it in moderation! A teeny bit on toast....
Maybe a wee bit on popcorn and corn...

But we can't give up using it in recipes!!!! Here are our fave unbelievably indulgent butterfied recipes!

You can't have cake without the buttercream frosting...OK maybe you can have cake but there is nothing better than a moist cake with bc frosting covering it!

Ingredients

Makes about 6 cups

  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 7 large egg whites
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 1/4 pounds (5 sticks) unsalted butter, cut into tablespoon-size pieces, softened
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Combine sugar, egg whites, and salt in the heatproof bowl of an electric mixer. Set over a pan of simmering water. Whisk constantly until sugar has dissolved and mixture registers 160 degrees on an instant-read thermometer.
  2. Return bowl to mixer; fit mixer with whisk attachment. Beat on medium-high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form, and mixture is cool, about 10 minutes.
  3. Switch to paddle attachment. With mixer on medium speed, add butter, 1 or 2 tablespoons at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix, scraping down sides of bowl as needed, until mixture is smooth. Mix in vanilla extract. Use immediately, or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to three days.

And speaking of cake...remember that Saralee Poundcake your mama used to buy and store in the freezer??!?!? Uh huh...that cake...
Well Miss Paula Dean graced us with her version and you better believe it is butterific!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, plus more for pan
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for pan
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

With a mixer, cream butter and shortening together. Add sugar, a little at a time. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Stir dry ingredients together in a bowl and add to mixer alternately with milk, starting with the flour and ending with the flour. Mix in vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Every Xmas we used to get a tin filled with butter cookies (the tin was the best part) and to our dismay they tasted more like coconut cookies than butter...so here is a lil gift to you (you have 330 days to make it so don't stress!)
Yummy Butter Cookies...tin not included

Not all of our fave butter recipes are sweet...some are sweet and savory!

The TDF ridiculously divine Ravioli with Sage and Brown Butter sauce....Yummmmmmmmmm

Ingredients

  • 1 24-ounce package fresh cheese ravioli
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 medium shallots, thinly sliced
  • 16 fresh sage leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3/4 cup (3 ounces) grated Parmesan

Directions

  1. Cook the ravioli according to the package directions.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the butter in a large skillet over medium-low heat until it foams. Add the shallots and cook, stirring, until golden, 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Increase heat to medium, add the sage, and cook until the leaves turn crisp, about 1 1/2 minutes. Remove from heat. Season with the salt and pepper.
  4. Return the drained ravioli to the pot, add the butter and sage, and toss gently. Add 1/2 cup of the Parmesan and toss again. Divide among individual bowls and top with the remaining Parmesan.

Love your butter on toast? I mean...who doesn't...no seriously do you know anyone??
How about some cinnamon-honey butter?

Ingredients

  • 1 pound butter
  • 1/4 cups honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Hardware:

  • Dough scraper
  • Standing mixer
  • Parchment paper or plastic wrap

Directions

Cut the butter into chunks using the dough scraper.

Place butter into the mixer?s work bowl and beat at low speed, using the whisk attachment to loosen the butter. Increase the speed to medium and add the honey, cinnamon, and vanilla extract and beat until well combined, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove butter from bowl and spoon onto parchment paper or plastic wrap. Roll into a log and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Yup...we shall indulge...you should too..thank us later.

Love butter sooooo much??? DIY it ... the cute amish-y man is worth the view...

Enjoy!
Just don't shave with it!

Rare Beauty: A deeper look

Taking a que from yesterdays No Bueno post... We are here today to celebrate women who have embraced their unique and rare beauty... And have become legends for it.

Lots of famous beauties have benefited from the knife, and we are not knocking them... But lets look at some of the faces that tell us, it's beautiful to be different. You don't have to look like Barbie to be stunning!

And is there anyone more stunning and rare then Isabella Rossellini? Strong, confident, sweet, talented, skin like porcelain. A darker more rugged version of her mother's beauty has served her well.

Talented, tragic, mysterious, breathtaking.

She may have never recognized her own beauty in her lifetime, but thousands of people are drawn to her sultry depth.

Her image and style are simply iconic.

When Bette Davis arrived in Hollywood in 1930
the studio representative who went to meet her train left without her.... because he could find no one who he thought looked like a movie star.

10 Academy Award Nominations and 2 wins later, I think she proved she was quite the movie star. Her large eyes even inspired a song called "Bette Davis eyes."

Anjelica Houston is not what anyone would call a feature for feature beauty.

But when you mix those features, the dark hair, the sexy almond shaped eyes, her imposing height and strong profile... The result is simply striking.

Certain girls... Jennifer Aniston is one, Sarah Jessica Parker is the queen.... Certain girls, are not exactly what you would think of as classic beauties... But something about their hair, their body, the confident smile, the grace with which they move.... Something about them makes you see them as really beautiful.

These girls have so much moxie, so much confidence, so much faith in themselves... That they land leading lady roles.

From an early age SJP stepped out of the "best-friend" roles and into the spotlight.
And every Sex In The City fan will tell you she deserves it.

Oh, and we mentioned the bodies right... Holy Shit!

But while we are on that page... Was there ever a cuter girl then Ricki Lake in the John Waters days?

Remember her line in Hairspray?
"I bet a lot of your viewers are pleasantly plump!"
Oh, I love her! So happy with herself.... In that movie she land the total hottie too.
In Crybaby she was simply glowing and gorgeous as Johnny Depps little sister.
And she is just as beautiful in her non-movie life.

Do you guys remember that uber crazy looking, uber famous and lovely super model Kristen McMenamy?

Yes, that one on the cover of the book titled, "McMenamy the Legend by Steven Meisel'..... Yeah....

I bet she got her ass kicked in junior high and high school!

Why is it that in the years when people feel the most insecure and vulnerable, their peers are uncapable of understanding that beauty comes in all shapes sizes, colors and is not always going to look like what you expect it to look like?? WHY!?
All that pain!

Because then you get older, and you look around and you say, "Hey, check out that sexy, confident, bad-ass lady with the rad broken nose... Wow, that MAKES her."

And that brings us to Hot-as-Hell-Please let us look something like her when we are 55 years old-Ellen Barkin.
Sure, she kind of looks like a Barbie... If Barbie grew up in Brooklyn and got into fights with the boys.

We are not saying she hasn't had a little this added here, and a little that lifted there... But she looks damn good... And she doesn't look like she bathes in the blood of virgins like some of the women in Hollywood do.
She looks her age, just really, really good for her age.

Plus, she dated Johnny Depp... Done!

So basically, what we are saying is Love yourself... Be confident in yourself and what it is that makes you beautiful. Because you are beautiful.
We know it is hard... It is for us too... But really, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
When you start to see that you are beautiful and believe it in your heart... The rest of the world will see it too.
