Yummies: We heart cinnamon!


Mmmmmmmmmmm....ding...scrape scrape...drip...lick....sprinkle...sprinkle...oopppss big sprinkle...spread...bite...AHHHHHH CINNAMON & SUGAR TOAST!!!!

The greatest thing in the world to begin a fantastical day is a cup o' coffee and cinnamon toast...


Ingredients-
Multigrain or sprouted wheat bread- toasted
Butter- the real deal (unless ur vegan)
Cinnamon
Sugar

Directions-
Slather toast with butter. Let it melt. Sprinkle toast heavily with cinnamon and sugar. DEVOUR! Repeat...repeat...repeat

That got us thinkin...we super heart cinnamon...what else do we love it in???

But first...the warm spice deserves a bit 'o history telling...

And now for the amazing sweet ways cinnamon blesses our tummies...


No one can say they don't like cinnamon after diving head first into a warm and gooey (oh god we are drooling) cinnamon roll...

Here is a ridiculously delish recipe for those gooey rolls of love stolen from Cinnabon!!!...No bread machine required!
Btw...did anyone keep or use their bread machine that was all the rage 10 years ago?

Anywhoo..
One night when Mr Twh was craving Ice Cream...his super amazing girlfriend (hee hee) pulled out a tiny tub of gourmet cinnamon ice cream. You would think she just gave him a new car!

Although that ice cream was store bought...we found the perfect recipe to make your own creamy yumminess! Here's how...

Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 12 large egg yolks

Directions-

Combine milk, 1 cup sugar, cream, cinnamon sticks, and salt in heavy large saucepan. Bring almost to simmer over medium-high heat.

Whisk egg yolks and 1/4 cup sugar in large bowl. Gradually whisk in hot milk mixture.

Return custard to saucepan and stir constantly over low heat until custard thickens, about 4 minutes (do not boil).

Transfer custard to large bowl set over another large bowl of ice water; let cool 30 minutes, stirring often. Cover and chill custard overnight.

Strain custard.

Process in ice cream maker according to manufacturer's instructions. Transfer ice cream to container; cover and freeze.


PS Homemade ice cream will bring everyone to their knees!


Sometimes the smell of cinnamon makes us think of home...well home when we were kids...
Every fall mom would bake the most amazing baked apples. When you ate one it felt like...well home...soooo comforting and cozy...
Now we can make our own! Sorry mom...we still heart yours too!!!
If Martha thinks they are good, they must be....

Cinnamon Roll CHEESECAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Um...YES PLEASE!!!!!! That picture is TDF! We can't imagine how it must taste....


This next goodie is dedicated to my fake boyfriend (not Edward...yes he is still my FBF) AJD...
Cinnamon & Sugar Madelines....

Hopefully after Mr AJD eats these he will fall madly in heartville with me and we can run away together...in 15 years that is...

1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (6 ounces)
2 tablespoons softened unsalted butter (for greasing pan)
3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
4 large eggs
a pinch fine-grain sea salt
2/3 cups sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon
zest of one large lemon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
powdered sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon mixed with 2 Tablespoons of sugar to sprinkle on top of cookie.

Use "cooking spray" with flour to grease molds

In a small bowl sift together flour, baking powder and ground cinnamon, set aside.

Cream butter and sugars and lemon juice in another bowl until light and creamy.

Add eggs and beat until combined.

Sift in flour mixture and fold until the flour has been incorporated into the wet mixture.

Place a heaped teaspoonful of the mixture in each mould

Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar mixture on top.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the tops are golden.

Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes in tray.

Unmould Cool on racks and dust with more cinnamon and sugar



And speaking of cinnamon sprinkled cookies...the most famous amos's of them all...

The Snickerdoodle...This chewy spicy and sweet cookie is dying to be dunked into a cup o' coffee, tea or almond milk...


Love Snickerdoodles but they are not sweet enough for you and you love cupcakes???
Well then try a Snickerdoodle Cupcake!


They are easy breezy to make and unbelievable to eat! Now if we can only get ours to look as cute as the pic above...

Ingredients-

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup milk, room temperature

Directions-

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Line regular and miniature cupcake trays with paper liners.
In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and cinnamon. Set aside.
In a mixer, cream butter and sugar on medium for about 2 minutes.
Add eggs, one at a time and mix until combined.
Add vanilla and mix until combined.
Add flour mixture to creamed butter and sugar in three additions. Alternate with milk in two additions.
Fill baking cups about 3/4 full.
Bake for about 15-20 minutes.
Remove cupcakes from trays and let cool.

To decorate, pipe on frosting, place one cookie on top and then pipe another dollop of frosting on top.

Sprinkle with leftover cinnamon and sugar from the Snickerdoodle cookie recipe.

Yummies: An apple a day!


The crisp fall air will always bring apples to mind... OK, so we live in California and the crisp air is more like insanely hot air, but it is still the end of September and you can still enjoy the bounty of the Fall... Even while wearing your sundress. 

Delicious and sweet or sour and tangy, it is apple season. 
Remember the old saying "An apple a day keeps the doctor away"? 
Well, their may be some truth to that. 

French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones.

A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

And also, A Brazilian study found that women who ate three apples or pears per day lost more weight while dieting than women who did not eat fruit while dieting.
And we all know that Brazilian women are HOT! 

So maybe Eve was on to something when she ate that famous apple! 

Here are a few of our favorite ways to enjoy those delicious apples. 
From the queen of all things perfectly perfect.. Martha Stewart comes this insane and indulgent looking Apple Pie... Well, more like deep dish bowl of yummy apple filling blanketed with flakey crust... Getting super hungry just looking at it. 

Miss Me's mom used to bake apples with brown sugar... SO GOOD! 
Here is another recipe for baked apple goodness. 

Baked Apple


1 apple, peeled and cored

1-2 tsp butter

1-2 tbsp almonds, chopped

2-3 tsp spice sugar (or use a mix of cinnamon and sugar if you don't have any spice sugar at hand. But you *should* make some!)


Place the apple in a small oven-proof dish. (I use ramekins from Le Creuset.) Push butter and almonds into the hole. Top with the rest of the almonds, if you like me can't fit them all inside. Sprinkle with spice sugar. Bake at 175°C for about 30 minutes, or until the apple is soft.


We heart apple slices with peanut butter!! 
It is so easy and so yummy and pretty good for you right? 

Plus, it makes you feel like a kid again, and that has GOT to be good for you. 

When you get home from a chilly autumn day (It will happen Angelinos, we just have to believe) of running errands and your ears are cold and the tip of your nose is a cute shade of flushed pink... Grab a cup of yummy warm apple cider! 
If you are entertaining this Fall, weather it is a dinner party or just having some friends over... Put a pot of this on the stove and your house will smell like a dream come true! 
Then you can add a little rum and get toasty. 
  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup real maple syrup
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 6 whole allspice berries
  • 1 orange peel, cut into strips
  • 1 lemon peel, cut into strips
Don't forget the caramel apples! 
How could anyone resist these amazingly sweet little green apple cupcakes? 
We had to post them just because they made us smile! 
If only their was the time in a day to make these... Ok well, Martha would find the time... But not us.
