Beauty-fuls: We heart Spring Beauty Trends

It's official...Spring is here! And so are it's uuber yummy beauty trends...

You know how we heart a good beauty story...
So, as the saying goes..."Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"...so are this seasons beauty trends!

Wooo hoooo...there is something for everyone!

It's almost as if ALL the designers called Miss Me and myself to ask what our most favorited beauty looks are and recreated them just for us to gaze at and then play with when we are at home alone ;)

Sooo our gorgeous lovers of Things We Heart, without futher adieu we bring you 4 of Spring's most delicious beauty trends...

P.S. 2 you will for sure recognize from a couple other posts...the same 2 that we swear designers borrowed from our lil blog!

We couldn't start this post with out the trend that we will take full credit for...OK maybe not FULL credit but can't a couple of girls dream?

1. Under Eye Eyeliner-

Once upon a time in 2004 we were called "Embarrassing" after lining our lower lids with a bright turquoise blue liner...now it's showing up all over! Wooo hooo!
Darn our timing ;)

Thank you Nanette Lepore for bringing the blue underliner back in such a pretty way!

Derek Lam does a face good with his light handed watercolor-esque blue under eye liner...

Oh Erin Fetherston you always get us where it counts! We sooooo heart all you do!
Including this goregous reverse smokey eye.

Soooo heroin chic in a beautiful sexy (not emaciated druggy) way.

Need a good bright eyeliner like the ones from NL show?
We heart Urban Decay

Or for your recessionistas Sephora makes some fantastically bright blues too like Azure and Lagoon

2. Bright Bold and Peachy Lips

You have heard us again and again (and again) talk about our minor obsession (ok MAJOR) with bold colored lips.

And thank the beauty goddess above, designers heart them too!

Mr Marc Jacobs for sure copied our post from last year and Miss Me's Magic Lipstick for his Spring 2010 show. We are honored Fake Boyfriend...we are honored!

He brought the runways bright fuschia lips! Suuuch a great and fun way to do a bold lip.
Now that the trend is getting bigger (You're Welcome) we found a few more yummy shades of Bright ass purpley-pink.

Mac Show Orchid is super divine and sexy and oh soooo super
The tattoo queen herself (no not that nasty ass slut Michelle Mcgee) Kat Von D has a super cute shade called Backstage Bambi that is sure to Barbie-fy your pout.

Prada not only made double ponytails sexy but they also made the bright orangey-red pout TDF!

So we don't all look like freaks walking down the street...try Nars Red Square (a perfect orangey red pencil that looks amazing on everyone!)
Throw this on with messy hair or a sleek bun and Hello Gorgeous!

There was also quite a bit of peachy sweet lips stalking the runways.
Wooo hooo Nanette...2 trends in 1 show!!!

Thank GOD! Cuz those shades are demure, sexy and look good on everyone!!!

Nars line of Orgasm is soooo perfect for spring. Goldy peachy pink flavors make you look like a Greek Goddess. No need for makeup with this shade...you will look so sweet and polished.

While searching for the perfect nude lip we came across Freckletone from MAC.

It's a perfect peachy-nude shade for your sexy smokey eye look (that is also back...but isn't it back every single season? Yes it is...YAY!!)

3. Greige Nails- (That's Beige and Grey mixed together)
Thank you Chanel (for sooooo many reasons) for your greige nails.

Uggghhhh we soooo love this color!!! It's so, "I love to go to Paris to shop but I am soooo down to earth that I don't want to be flashy"

The puttiness of these "Greys" is chic and classy and goes with any ones skin tone.

Chanel was kind enough to let us non Chanel-y shoppers dare to dream even more by letting us have the same color as on the runways.

OPI also has their version of the Greige called Over the Taupe.

And last but sooooooo certainly not least...

4. Any thing goes as long as you feel super sexy hair

Of course we put Mr Wang in here yet again!

His wind swept side braid is soooo sexy...crazy stylish in a "Oh...I just woke up and this is what my hair looks like" way, uber easy to do and we wear it almost everyday.

Braids also showed up at Dsquared2

Norma Kamali did twisted braid "hats" that make us wish we had major mermaid hair

And a few other shows to prove they are here to stay.

Hi Lanvin...do you ever do anything wrong? Ever? NO?? Yeah no shit!

'Cuz your Ballerinas on Crack buns are sooooooo F'n stunning!!!!!

And paired with smokey eyes we are totally stealing this for an upcoming wedding!!!

Diane, Diane, Diane....we are in Heartville with your spring 2010 tribal looks! Those fabrics are TDF!

And that goddess hair???!??! Yes Please!!!!!!

Take a trend or take them all...play a bit of dress up!

Feel silly? Don't!
In the middle of this post I decided to try on all of my old bright blue liners and bright red lipstick and you know what? It looks pretty damn good!

Have fun! What else is makeup for?

Beauty Beat... No more smudged eyes, unless we want them that way.

So, I have this problem... Every time I wear my eyeliner, and I NEED my eyeliner, I get little smudges right under my lower lashes!

Now when that is the look that a girl is going for, then bravo and yummy! But when you are going for a strictly day-time look, well that smudge can just be a big NO-NO!

Not to mention the curse of the dark eye circles we were born with... You don't wanna play that up on a sunny day.

I see them all the time, pretty girls with pretty eyes lined in a nice and soft day-time friendly way, but I just have never been one of those girls.
The investigation began... I asked the lovely Miss T-W-H how she always managed to keep her liner in line so to speak and she said to put a light eye shadow on first to set it.

The more and more I looked around the more it became clear, the oils in your eyelids, (gross) make your liner slip and slide all over the place. Setting your eyeliner with a loose powder or a pale eye shadow is a old make-up artist trick.

I already use Bare Minerals (Love it!) So I am going to try this trick today!

Turning up in my endless searches for a fix for my runny eye makeup over and over again were,

Sooooo Many people were swearing by these that I am running to Sephora to try them out.

My beautiful sister Miss B. told me that she got a tip from a make-up artist on set once who put it to a girl straight and said, "if you don't smudge your eyeliner a little when you put it on, it is gonna smudge itself."

Here are the best tips I found on the internet for eye-liner tips and education.

(Taken from the web, not our words. But we lost the link, so if you know who wrote these tips let us know!)
Eyeliner Types
Eye liners come in pencil, liquid or powder. Pencils liners can be found in an assortment of sizes and colors. The fatter the pencil, the more smudged look you'll get, the smaller and harder the pencil, the more precise a line you’ll get. Pencils are versatile since you can use them for sharper, defined lines or create a smudged, smoky look and any combination in between. Liquid liners are a bit tricky to apply, but once you master a perfect line, you will probably love the look. Liquid liners will give a more dramatic, defined look. Powders go on softer but when mixed with a liquid, can go on darker. They must be used with a good pointed brush to apply a thin line.
Liner Application
Top Lids
Apply liner as close to lashes as possible-you don’t want to see any skin color between your lashes and liner. For pencils and powders you can scrub the color right into your lashes so you don’t see the skin tone-particularly useful for very fair complexions with sparse lashes. Smudging pencil liner will help avoid a harsh look. To make eyes look longer or wide-set, start mid-lid and extend liner just past the end of eye, tapering upward.
Bottom Lids
Apply pencil or powder liner sparingly as close to lashes as possible then smudge to avoid a harsh look and help balance the eye shape. To make eyes look longer or wide-set, start mid-lid and extend liner just past the end of eye, blending upward, or just add a small smudge under eyes at the outer corner and smudge upward. For most people, lining the entire bottom lid looks very unnatural, heavy, throws the shape of eyes off balance and makes eyes look smaller so stick with lining no more than half way in on the bottom. Liquid liner doesn’t usually look good on bottom lids since it can look too harsh and can be difficult to apply, but if you do want to try it, hold outer corner of lid taut and apply using quick short strokes if you have trouble making an even line in one thin stroke because of lashes in the way.
Eye Lining Tips
-The thicker the brush for liquid eyeliner, the thicker the line will be and the harder it is to manage a perfect line. Wipe excess liquid liner off on the rim of the tube when you pull the brush out. If the skin on your lid tends to crinkle, the line will not turn out straight.
-To help you get a fine straight line, hold eye lid taut at the outer corner of eye and apply in one long, smooth stroke starting at the inner corner. Always apply liquid liner after shadow application and allow to dry before applying mascara.
-Using oily or slick pencils to line the lower lashes will smear and smudge. Most pencil liners wear off easier, so set it to last longer and prevent smudging by softly brushing some powder shadow over it in black, brown or charcoal.
-Don’t use eyeshadow as eyeliner unless you use a brush with a small, precise, fine-tipped point. And mixing the shadow with water or Visine before applying will give you a better line and a good substitute if you don’t have any liner.
-Over-blending and spilling your eyeliner onto the skin under the lower lashes will make dark under eye circles look worse. Go easy with liner on top lids as well since it will bring attention the dark circles.-Never apply thick or heavy eyeliner to small or close-set eyes or eyes with small eyelids.
-To help correct droopy eyes (your eye shape droops downward at the outer corners), line upper lids starting at the middle of the lid in a very thin line and getting thicker at the outer corners and wing it upward and outward to visually lift eyes and don’t line bottom lids.
-Extend liner past the outer corner of the eyes and upward for a cat eye look, but be careful not to extend too far or you may look like an Egyptian Pharaoh.
-Soften the tip of a freshly sharpened pencil by gently rolling it across the back of your hand or between your fingers. You can also bring a dull, flattened pencil to more of a point without sharpening it by gently pinching and rolling the tip between your thumb and forefinger. You can also salvage a tip broken off a pencil by placing it back onto the pencil, gently pinch, push back toward pencil and roll between fingers to meld them together.

Hi there, it is Miss Me again. See sometimes info like that can be very helpful to a gal. But it seems like the main thing is to use either a primer or loose powder to set those lines straight!

But I am also going to embrace all the new fun eye makeup trends that are going on right now!

Because lucky for us makeup novices, the beautiful colorful liners and shadows that we have been hearting for a while now, are not so prone to smudging as classic black.

But I am also super excited to get on the heavy liquid eyeliner trend we feel headed our way this fall.

Beauty-fuls: Breakin' the Law...breakin' the Law...we heart breaking beauty laws (well rules really)

You know that saying "Some rules are meant to be broken"? Well nothing can be more true than that when applied to makeup.

I mean come on ladies!!! Make up is fun!!!...it's meant to be played with.

There are sooo many amazing colors out there that scream..."come play with us!!!!" Transform your self...play dress up.

And yes..I am talking to myself in the mirror as I write this (super hard to do, but I am a girl after all...we live for multi tasking).

Oh and btw...every day Miss Me and I try new things...

She wears her "Magic Lipstick" and I have been rocking turquoise eyeliner with gorge lined lips (OK so I have been known to rock the turq liner for a while now but give me a break! I am trying!)

p.s. this is not me...I wish! But that's kind of the color I super heart and wear...

So here are our 5 most heartville rules that should and actually need to be broken...

1. Blue eyeshadow/eye liner is soooo totally 80's.

Nope...it's really not.

Sure everyone in the 80's rocked it but did anyone who made these rules stop to think that maybe the 80's just ruined it. It was the decade of excess right? So that leads us to believe that blue liner and shadow should totally be worn... just not in excess.

And think you have to wear bright blue eye liner with only nude lips? That rule is f-a-l-s-e too!
Bright blue liner looks absolutely amazing with pink lips!

OK maybe not like this but blue and pink do look amazing together!

and speaking of totally '80's and pink lips

2. Lip colors should be natural colors...whether it's nude, red, berry, rose or taupe...Bright pink is for only for Barbie past the age of 11.

Here at t.w.h we love to hate this rule. We are obsessed with bright pink and fuchsia lips!

As mentioned before, Miss Me even has a gorge magenta "Magic Lipstick" that she fantastically rocks everywhere she goes and looks TDF.

And to prove our point about breaking the rules...when she wears her "Magic Lipstick" people (men usually) start to babble and stutter in front of her..(it might also be that she is ridiculously beautiful, but the lipstick is for sure magic)

3. Red lips are for night only...in the words of a uber cute girl... "Red lips at night, Sailors delight...Red lips in mornin', Sailors take warnin'"

Who says red lips are only for the night?

OK, so maybe not all of us can be as glam and ridiculously chic as the stunning Stefani with her gorge classic red lips...but we can dream...Ahhhhhhhhhhh.

Ooops...OK dream over.

We may not be able to rock bright red and richly pigmented lipstick like G.S. during the day to meetings, markets, shopping, parks...but we can sure try.

If you go more sheer red with tints or glosses or even sheer lipsticks the red during the day is all yours!

Just like the beautiful and always chic, Kirsten Dunst with sheer Orangey red lips.

4. Finger nail polish needs to match toe nail polish AND Fingers should be pale and save the fun for the toes

Um, hi there....beauty rule makers...seriously? Those are still rules?

TDF matte navy nails...pair these with the bright pink Essie on your toes and you are super RTG!

Ya... they are and they are for sure super silly. Nothing says fun, confidence and "I embrace my multiple personalities (hey we all got 'em) like toes and fingers that don't match and nothing says fun lovin' like bright finger nails.

Break more rules and try the new and unbelievably gorge new nail trend...matte nails for an out of this world, uber chic look.

Super heart this Essie fuchsia polish!!! Try on tootsies and nails! (just not together...cuz you are shmancier than that)

5. If you are wearing darker lipstick stick to a pale eye...and if you are wearing a smokey eye stick to nude lips.

Dumb alert...ding ding ding...Well it is!

Sure, don't go overboard with thick and heavy make up but the days of one or the other make up are ova'.
You would be surprised how chic and sleek a bit of both are.

But just keep the lips matte and the eye liner and shadow from your eyelid crease down. No need to go all Addicted to Love on us.

You'll look like a gorge lady in Paris...ooh la la...

Break all the rules!! Start Anti-rules...and do it with passion!

xoxo t.w.h.
