Decor (to die for): We heart CB2! ( we know! soo good...right?!?)

Turns out an amazingly, great place to get yummy decor on the cheap (well, cheaper) is CB2.

CB2 is the ultimate place to go for amazingly beautiful and fun modern decor... Its Crate and Barrel's younger and much cooler sibling.  It's like a chic and stylish version of Ikea but for people who like quality ;) and well, lasting style.

So a few months ago construction started on the corner of Sunset Blvd and Crescent Heights in LALA land and then the sign went up....we nearly crashed our car!  OMG!  CB2!!!

That catalogue we have been drooling and ordering from for years is coming to us?

YES PLEASE!...hurry hurry hurry...open, open, open (cue old school Mervyn's commercial)!!!

And it did (open)...it is an oasis in the middle of the crazy expensive furniture desert of LA.  It can really go toe to toe with the big guns of fun and modern furnishings.

So we closed our eyes, took a deep breath, held on to our cute straw fedora (just say NO to skin cancer ladies) and went in...   It is fantastic!

Here are a few (too many to choose from) of our fav finds from decor to furniture...

A few weeks back we did a fantasmic reclaimed table post and one of our favs just happened to be from this haven of amazing decor.  We needed to see it in person... yup!  Even better than the picture in the well styled catalogue.  It took everything in our body not to buy it and surprise the boy... UUGGH...next time.

We danced through the dining collections and wait...what??  Hello beauties!

The Vapor Bar stool...

Sooo hearting Lucite furniture.  Its so modern and lofty yet can be mixed in to any decor for a little added chicness.  Imagine these at a kitchen island.  So great!

Those amazing clear chairs got us thinking.. hmm we need to spruce up our yards a bit.. it seems like most of the great outdoor furniture is usually teak wood or black metal...BORING!   Then we saw these...T.D.F. (To Die For)!!!
How stupidly cute are these chairs?!  Great shape, idea and fantastic colors.  These with a teak or dark wood out door dining table..done and done. Mix 'um up for some real fun.   Use a few more for extra seating in the yard or deck.  They come in yellow, turquoise (and we all know how much we heart that color) and white.

Why is this pendant lamp the cutest thing ever!  Use a few at different lengths for added beauty and decor panache (great word!).  It will brighten up any room...even the kitchen!

(revere pendant)

And speaking of kitchens, how great are these glasses?
So fancy-free yet so snazzy.  Serve wine in them and your guest will think you are the cats meow of hosting.  And with 6 different languages all saying cheers... so cute!

Now after playing on your laptop all day..wouldn't you loooovvveee to snuggle up in this dreamy yet classically clean bed?

This warm grey bed will go in any room...any color (preferably a bright one), and it snuggles you up in its square cocoon like shape....Ahhhh yum!

Imagine this with crispy cold sheets after a day at the beach or playing outside.

OK, that bed just made us feel so snuggley and relaxed...NAP TIME!  Yay!

Go to CB2.com and have a blast!

Remember, even a small item can change your room...and the big ones, well they make it.

Random Hearts: HEY YOU GUYS!!! We heart The Goonies!!!

Yes we do! We heart the Goonies so, so very much... That we think this movie deserves it's own post.

And you know what? This movie is so great, it is not even random that we heart it! It is almost a given for anyone who watched it as a kid.
What other film so deftly combines adventure, comedy, one eyed pirates, mobsters, cheer leaders and all around spookiness? We can't think of a single one.
When the Goonies found that treasure map in Mikey & Brand's attic the adventure was about to begin! And for generation after generation kids will enjoy watching the Goonies save their town! This pop culture favorite is as good today as it ever was.

Remember when Chunk got locked in the freezer with all the ice cream and the dead guy?! We have two words for that scene.... Cinema MAGIC!! Really only to be topped by the next scene where Chunk "Talks" and proceeds to tell the bad guys "Everything".  You can even buy art inspired by that monologue!

Speaking of the bad guys.... How F*%#ing scary was Mama Fratelli?  She was seriously one bad ass bitch! We remember she used to give us the goose bumps. Yikes!

Not to mention all the cute fellas that were in this movie! We might have watched it a few times just to see brad in those awesome short-shorts over sweats! Sooooo cute! Andy was just so much better off with him then that dumb jock Troy. What a jerk he was! Hmmm maybe that is the root of our aversion to jocks!

A million little girls hearts are set a flutter by the Goonies boys!
Maybe we should go rent this tonight... Oh wait never mind, we own it!
We hope you also heart the Goonies and that this brought you back a lot of memories.

Yummies: So hearting...Tea for Two (or more)

There is nothing shmancier then going to a High Tea service.
There's something so regal and proper about having tea in the afternoon.  Wearing a straight skirt and silk shirt, a wonderfully pressed napkin at your thigh, sitting upright and laughing without making a sound and a perfectly polished pinkie high in the air as the tea cup is pressed to your glossy lips.

But, then again there is also something a bit too prim and proper about High Tea in a cozy English tea house for us here at T.W.H.
As you have probably figured out by now we are walking contradictions... part girl, with chunk of boy added in, and equal bits and pieces of frill and dirt... So for us, we need our High Tea to be a bit more like us,  a total clash of sweet and salty (so to speak).
We want to wear our jeans and gladiators or neon makeup and converse...we want to laugh out loud with out worrying if tea is going to shoot out of our noses (well... we do!).
So we did a bit of investigating T.W.H. style in LA (sorry guys outside of LALA land... our blog budget only covers tea service with in a few miles)
We came across not 1, but 2 absolute dream tea houses or High Tea cafes.  So chic, so cool soooo NOT LA (maybe that's why we heart them sooo uber much)
We are a bit giddy from overwhelming cuteness and excitement from these gorge tea spots...so excuse us if this goes on a little and we seem like little girls in a Barbie factory.

OK, HERE THEY ARE... sorry...told you we are brimming with excitement.

Our fav, hearty-est place ever...ever, Royal-T.

Its part tea house, part Japanese French Maid (huh?  yup...the cutest Japanese girls wearing French Maid costumes), art space of the most spectacular new wave modern Japanese art, and gift shop.

The concept is based on Japanese Meido Kissa, "a cafe where the service staff dress as elegant maids. The purpose of the maid cafes and their service is to make customers feel as though they are at home and to encourage them to relax."

Its bright and airy, modern and crazy chic and the food is amazing... we were so drunk off of the cute concept and great tea we almost spent our savings on the amazing modern sculptures.  (and we don't mean MOCA modern... more of MOMA modern...super rad...suuuper Japanese-y almost skate culture...)

Now if you could get arrested for excitement just from walking into a space like The Patisserie at The Bazaar at the SLS Hotel (the long name is worth it), we would be doing 20 years in the big house.

Pale pink subway tiles married against white Cararra marble, with miles of apothecary jars filled with candy and pastries, and gorgeous cake platters overflowing with fantastical pastries... our dream of all dreams come true. We could live here...forever!

Now this is more proper than Royal-T, but just as rad and chic.  High Tea is served from 3-5pm for $25 pp. and much like the place itself, the food and petite fours served are anything but "normal".  No tea sandwiches or mini perfectly fondanted cakes here... instead you can have dill creme fraiche and salmon roe cones or beet and goat cheese macaroons followed by chocolate pop rocks (AMAZING) and perfect cookies.

UUGGHH we are taking the day or week off and just going to go to both of these everyday!

Wanna be even cuter and more recessionista?  Do your own High Tea your way.
Grab a rad teapot
and tea cups...
some amazing tea,
(save the tin for later storage on a vanity or in a glass cupboard)
make some tea sandwiches and cookies and you are R.T.G.!

Invite your shmanciest and most fun gals over and you will be speaking in an English accent in no time!

If you are a bit more traditional or just want to go the proper route...we found a whole bunch of amazing tea houses here...

Enjoy!!

Monday: I'm a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world... Neon makeup!

Listen, I am going to be totally honest with you. Up until I hit 30 (yep!) Miss Me's  makeup routine consisted of: face lotion, lip gloss, and if I was feeling wild...black Cover Girl eyeliner along the inner rim of my eyes.
(Well, there was that brief stint in '91 with Revlon's Toast of New York lipstick, but ALL the girls in junior high were doing it, I swear!)

So, needless to say, my makeup advice is not coming at you with a wealth of experience behind it. But, I know what I like, I know what I want to try and I know what I think is beautiful. You can take these suggestions with that confession in mind.
Lets get into it with my favorite new makeup trend. Neon makeup! Wow, I really never, ever, never, ever thought that the neon craze would raise it's head again... I lived through the days of day-glow zinc oxide, I was happy to see it go. So imagine how surprised I was all these years later to find that I was happy to see it come back!

I just think it can look so pretty when you do this trend the right way. Like Eve in this photo above, who would have thought that electric blue eye makeup could look so fresh and light and pretty. You have to pick either the eyes or the lips and go heavy on that area, then go super light on the other. Because if you do both you will end up looking like this. And honestly who needs that? (Please check link, as I was so obviously NOT talking about Ri-Ri)

Do as the painfully, absurdly beautiful Rihanna does here with the prettiest of hot pink lipstick shades. She keeps it simple with clean black eye makeup and a light blush.

Another pretty pink pout on Alexis Bledel. This bright pink makes her eyes look SO blue!

Want to try out the super pink lip? Here are a few great choices.

Makeup Forever has this beautiful slick gloss, love all the colors but try Fuchsia, Bright Pink, Violet or Tangerine.

For a more opaque look, try this Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited lipstick. They have a new collection of 9 shades of pink, formulated with an innovative pink hybrid pigment. Yeah, I guess that means that this color goes on really pink, not watered down with any other colors. This is pure pink ultra smooth 8 hour wear lipstick. With all these beautiful shades of pink, you are sure to find your perfect match.  Sounds like a win-win to me.

You could also try M.I.A's amazing 2 tone lipstick from the cover of Spin. So amazing!

Moving on to eyes, this is is the most adorable little Rainbow Bright pallet of eye shadows I have ever seen! I would buy this Pop Beauty Lid Neon, just to have it sit out on my bathroom counter... But maybe I should try and use it to achive something like this look from Gucci's Spring 2009 runway show.

WOW!! Super sexy, sultry and bold. I wonder if I have the balls to try this look out. I wonder if you do? Why not? At least lets practice it in the bathroom alone a few times and see how we do. If it doesn't work out, we can always go with the safe route.
These amazing colors from Essie's neon collection is available in a mini 4 pack so you can try them all and have them around for handy touch ups.

Have fun, I know I will!

No Bueno! Not loving how amazing you are...

Tis true.

Take a deep breath... wrap your arms around your body and realize how amazing you truly are.  ( I know..I know..cornball alert..but think about it)

In world so wrapped up in faux (or real) celebrity, skinniness, age and money,  it's super hard to remember that NONE of that really matters... seriously...none of it.

When our number is up, and our wrinkles are like that of California Raisins, none of that will have made you happier.  What will, is knowing you lived your life to the fullest while enriching those around you and not hurting anyone.

Living, laughing and learning..those are the things that matter.

P.S.  this may have just been a tweety bit of a reminder for me ...hee hee.  But we all  need a little kick in the butt.  We forget sometimes to be good to ourselves.

Now have an amazing day and do something good just for you.  You deserve it.

Fashion Flash Friday: Heaven on Broadway and Broome St

EEEHHHHH EEEEHHHH EEEHHHHH (that's the sound of the NYC hotel alarm at 8am...5am my time)

Strrreeeechhhh.....tip toe, tip toe (don't wake the boy up) ...ouch (that was my toe kicking my stiletto across the room).. splash splash... slurp slurp (ah coffee... nectar of the early bird Gods)... zip and lock...  and WE ARE OFF!!!

Walking up Broadway I can see it...is this real?  OMG!  TOP SHOP NYC!!!

Yippie!  My walking pace slows down..  what if it's not good?  What if it lets us down like H&M has for the last year (or 2)?   OK.. deep breath... grab the door handle and just go in...

And the doors opened..It was heaven.
I swear I heard the flapping of angel wings and little fluffy Bunnycats
(and yes...those do exist in my heaven) flying around and singing.

It was all I expected and more.  It was heaven on the corner of Broadway & Broome.

It's 4 levels (that's right, 4) of bliss.  3 for the girls and 1 fantastic one for the boys....um, hi..they have shoes!  And these are not knockoffs of the fabulous people,  these are T.S.(Top Shop) originals ma' ladies.  Like these beautiful and well priced gladiators.

and we all know us T.W.H. gals luurve our gladiators.

Or these fantastic tribal (but far from Prada knockoff) platform sandals.
Hello Harem pants..these are our new friends, Hot Tribal Heel... you guys would make an amazing couple.

So, I catch my breath and go directly to T.W.H.s fav, Kate Moss for Top Shop.  Its stocked to the brim with her fancy frocks and shmancy never too trendy but last forever pieces.  I immediately grabbed this cropped nautical cardi...sooo perf to dress up any outfit in a casual, "I don't care..I just 'threw' this lil' number together" kind of way.

I make a quick stop in the denim section...ahhh!!!  What's that!!???  A ruffle shoulder jumpsuit?!?!   Whhaaattt???   Is that Balenciaga???!!  Nope but its a damn hot ass dress!
And wow..a chic clean one shoulder jumpsuit?!!

I go to the Boutique level where they have all this almost Avante-garde-esq designs.  Perfect for keeping in your wardrobe forever.
This dress will be sooo chic for years to come...just change out the heels and bag and you are good to go for many wears.

We then waltzed (or floated, high on Top Shops best uppers) over to these amazing chiffon printed numbers..dresses, camis, skirts, cardis...the whole gamut to find out it's their new line from designer Barbara Hulanicki.  So charming and girly, yet the prints really just make it fun and sassy.
Lurrvee this light blue leopard print tent dress with bow back.

There is soooo much more but we are so tired from the Top Shop heaven roller coaster that now it is time for snuggles and hot chocolate... gotta rest up for round 2 tomorrow!!

My arms are still shaking from all my amazing finds (so is my wallet) ..what recession?  Just kidding I am suuuper the recessionista and sooo not fancy pants. But I couldn't help myself :( ..It's TOP SHOP!
P.S. This was originally going to be a post about all of the amazing lower cost fantastic fashion lines but we are still on Top Shop Cloud 9...so stay tuned for that one in a couple of weeks!

xoxo t.w.h.

see! we told you bunnycats are real ;)
