Bueno!: We heart farmers markets!

Hip Hip Hooray!   We love summer...the outdoors..the smells... the golden bodies (courtesy of sunless tanner of course...ohhh we smell a sunless tanner post coming!), and most of all the yummy, fresh, local, healthy Farmers Markets!!!

How super fun is it to throw on your cute shorts and a fantasmic vintage tee, some flips and head out to grab this seasons local grown, freshest and (usually) organic foods and flowers!?!?

It's like doing a 2-fer for yourself and Mother Earth
First of all local farmers markets are good for you.  You get do enjoy the outdoors, put great veggies and fruits in your body, save some moolah and ....GASP...talk to your neighbors!!!
And B... farmers markets are good for the Earth and the local industries.
They help the Earth because the food is grown locally and usually on smaller farms.
So... there are no big-rig trucks or airplanes from other countries spewing fumes and pollution and ridiculous amounts of pesticides are not needed.

Also... local farms hire and feed local people...so farmers and the work is not outsourced and because food is grown in smaller batches than the ones used to feed all of America, it tastes better and has more nutrients!  YAY!

Fun fact***

Farmers markets are an integral part of the urban/farm linkage and have continued to rise in popularity, mostly due to the growing consumer interest in obtaining fresh products directly from the farm.

Farmers markets allow consumers to have access to locally grown, farm fresh produce, enables farmers the opportunity to develop a personal relationship with their customers, and cultivate consumer loyalty with the farmers who grows the produce.

Direct marketing of farm products through farmers markets continues to be an important sales outlet for agricultural producers nationwide.

Today, there are more than 4,600 farmers markets operating throughout the nation.

So go out there and enjoy your local markets!!!

Here is a list from some of our countries major cities...

Fashion Friday: We heart a good vintage Tee!!!

Oh we love us a good real vintage tee! With sweats to the gym, with skinny jeans and high-tops, with cut-offs and flip-flops (Not platform ones.).  We just can't help it, we are a sucker for any cotton Tee that has been around for over 20 years... Yum!
Now of course the best ones are the ones you either got from your folks... Yeah my sister has my parents old Rolling Stones Tee and it looks sooo good I turn green with envy every time I see her in it! But it also feels really great to score one for zilch at the local Good Will.... But these days, it is so hard to find a great really exciting vintage Tee for a reasonable price. Urban Outfitters, of course has great Tee's and the Truly, Madly, Deeply V-necks have a super sexy fit.

But we are talking real worn in, about to tear to shreds Tees.
Today we offer to you a selection of some of the cool ones we found on the web.

Reasonable price, Super cute Jackson 5 concert Tee! This is the real deal from the 1980's and it looks pretty teeny tiny for all you little ladies out there. Check it out on Ebay.

Are you there God? It's me, Miss Me. I am really sorry for everything bad I have ever done in my life, and I promise, if you just give me this vintage 1983 authentic Beat Street Tee, I will never do another bad thing as long as I live. Wait, is wrong to pray for clothing? Ahhh, who am I kidding? I do it all the time!

But, really, God, my birthday IS next month. Thanks for listening.

Wow, really Defunkd, who are you and why are you holding all my dream Tee's hostage? The ransom that your asking is pretty high... But I see where you are coming from. Good for you Defunkd, you are a brilliant purveyor of vintage Tees.
Please check out this Ebay store for more jems like this Hill Street Blues Tee

This one would be so cute on the boy in your life! Plus you can borrow it, and look super cute!

I have a favor to ask you though readers... If you happen to stumble upon this little beauty while you are shopping... Unless you are gonna put it in a gift box with a giant bow and my name on it, please don't buy it! I am working on the Boy I Heart to get me this one. ;)

Original... From the first album.
Thats right. WOW!

Have fun vintage Tee shopping! Wear them with love.

Decor (to die for): I see a red door and I want it PAINTED BLACK...

Think black walls are just for people like Marylin Manson and the Munsters?  Think again!

Black does not have to be scary!  It really doesn't.   In fact we are sooo super jealous (in a good and kinda bad way) of the people who have black painted walls we couldn't resist becoming crazily obsessed with them.

We were reminded of our love of  black walls in the most amazing way, whilst talking to our one of my favorite boyfriends, A.J.D., when he started to sing this song by the Rolling Stones... Painted Black (um did we tell you he is 3!)

It got us thinking how much we HEART black rooms!  Its sooo bold, sooo chic and soooo unexpectedly beautiful.

OK, this house by J Crew designer Jenna Lyons, may be the true reason we became obsessed.
We were both in Mexico reading Domino mag (sob...cry... why are you gone Domino!?!?!?!) and simultaneously screeched out in excitement when we saw these pictures.

Perfection... glamorous,  classic, dramatic, fun and fantastic...
Super heart the white mantle with the Persian rug and wood floor.  AAAHHHH so beautiful!

And what about that fantasmic bathroom???
OMG are those bare herringbone floors and a black claw tub????? WOW!

How gorgeous is this dramatic black sitting room from Kelley Proxmire?
The crisp white chair and Chinese accents against the flat black wall... so clean and totally doable.  We lurve the mix of beach and Asian with a great palate of neutrals and coral.  Sooo super chic!

And what about this super casual yet amazingly well put together elegant black kitchen from another one of our fav designers,  Dame Ruthie Sommers.
Yum and um hello?  Turquoise accents and a chandelier????  Yes and Please!  She perfectly mixed cool and casual with chic and hardcore....amazing!
It doesn't get much cooler or chic-ly unique than a black kitchen.

Yup that's right!
That is Queen Kelly Wearstler's BLACK kitchen!  Who would have ever thought that an all over black painted, tiled and marble kitchen could work so unbelievably well.  Her unique and well picked accessories, her glamorous and elegant table settings are perfection in her not at all Gothic black kitchen.   We will leave this masterpiece to Kelly.
Kelly?  Could you please come over and do this in our hallway?  Only you could make a freaking glossy black hallway, whimsical!  Thank you for your vision and fairytale imagination.  How do you do that?  How do you mix Asian, mirrored furniture, glamour, pink, black and tile and create perfection??  No, really how?

Um hi...you had us at hello... This black masterpiece of a living room.
So chic, so crisp, so easy, sooo not hard or unlivable.  This is a perfect example of a black room that can suit even the most timid or design shy.  The use of colors and textures actually make the room comfy and welcoming.

P.S.  PLEASE tell my real boyfriend that we should really paint one of our rooms black! Please..hook a sista up!  Hee Hee

So go out... be bold...be chic... get some shmancy murs noirs (that's black walls in french...see how fancy we are?)
Don't forget a good primer and drop cloths!
And send us pix when your done!

A tree grows in Brooklyn... And we heart it.

So, the Boy I heart was telling this amazing story today about something he heard on NPR where a man went into an old abandoned school in Detroit and found just thousands of books in piles on the ground, and the windows were all broken and wind and dirt and everything was just blowing right into this old skeleton of a school building.

And when the man looked closer into one of the piles of books, he saw a little tiny tree growing. That poetic picture inspired this post, because things always grow and re-create. Nature will find a way. Besides, who wouldn't heart a sweet little plant growing on their desk or perhaps on your

We found some really cute grow your own mini-garden options that we would like to share with you.

First up we have the super sweet and cute egglings... Oh my goodness these are so adorable! We want a whole row of them up on the kitchen window!

Stop the press's!!

Woopsie! Spoke to soon! Look at these adorable little tin cans that house a colorful mini-flower garden! You can get yours at Fred Flare
These are just the gift we would bring over to a friends house as a house warming or a hostess gift! Can you imagine a few of these cans of flowers with some china-town dish towels?! You would be invited over again and again!

Or you can go super old school and grab your self a Chia pet!

A little greenery for your day! It really can brighten your mood.
And it is really amazing to see what nature will do. The plants will keep on growing, the sun will keep on shining. And as for you dear readers, we hope you will keep on smiling!

Yummies: We totally heart fun foods that are good for your skin!

Dearest loyal readers... oooppsie daisy!  So sorry we missed Monday's post :(
Not only was there an earthquake on Sunday (right under our house!) but the T.W.H. Internet was not behaving.  But there is good news!  We decided to combine Beautifuls and Yummies into 1 post for your reading pleasure.

In case you are a new reader, (hello there!)  Mondays are dedicated to beauty and Tuesdays are for food...just to keep you in the loop.

OK,  thats it... here we go!

FYI,  there are super yummy foods that are good for your skin..and we are not just talking veggies, water and fish (even though those foods are the best for your waist line and cellulite... ewww sorry ..they aren't always the most fun to eat)

First up on the yummy train is a fruit that is soooo good for you and sooo sweet you may never miss processed sugar (which is HORRIBLE for skin...if I could only remember that every time i see candy in my path)... we give you berries!

Berries are so super filled with good for your skin antioxidants/vitamins like C and E.
Vitamin C is a great skin restorer.  It helps your collagen rebuild itself and keeps skin bright and plump.  Soooo the more you eat the better your skin and waist.
They are also amazing when added to yogurt with honey and spread on skin after sunbathing.

Speaking of yogurt,

it too, is great inside or outside of your body.
The real kind...not the sugar filled ones... are full of Vitamin A and probiotics that will leave skin softer, smoother and less prone to breakouts! Yippie!  And eat the low fat, low sugar kind... your belly and thighs will thank you too!

One of our favorite beauty brands makes an amazing mask (do not eat)

but then again if you are a recessionista like us, yogurt is the best ingredient to add to at home masks. WOO HOO!

If you like pina-colada then you will lurve this next one!

Pineapple (yummmm) is filled with good for your skin and belly vitamins and minerals.

Thanks to Vitamin C and pectin not only will your skin glow, but it aids in digestion and helps you from being bloated.

Now there is another fun ingredient in pineapple that is super good too, Bromolina, it is an enzyme that is amazing for skin and muscles and an anti-inflammatory! Yippie...bye bye crazy dimpled tushie!

When this juicy fruit is applied to the skin it helps get rid of dull and dry skin while cleaning and softening... yup we are excited as we are reading this too!

Here is a great pineapple mask..you could eat it when its done working :)  ...just saying ;)

Pineapple exfoliate moisturizing mask

Note: honey is a powerful astringent and moisturizer.
Ingredients

* 4 large pineapple chunks

* 3 tablespoons of grapeseed oil

* 1 tsp raw honey

Blend all the ingredients in a blender until the mixture is smooth.
Apply on the face and leave on for 10-15 minutes.
Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

P.S. add egg white (don't eat that part..salmonella anyone?) to help tighten the pores.

Now the moment we have all been waiting for...CHOCOLATE!!!

YES..you did hear (read) that correctly... chocolate is good for your skin!

OK, before you (we) go running out and dunking our heads in a huge bag of M&Ms, keep reading.

Not all chocolates are created equal and usually the ones in fun colored, bite size pieces are not usually the good ones... but dark chocolate that is organic and less processed can be uber good for you and your skin.
Just be careful not to eat a crazy amount :)  cellulite (i know..sorry..its out of love)  is known to follow crazy sugar consumption.

Dark chocolate contains antioxidants and flavonoids that do amazing work.  Not only do they help block some UV rays to keep skin young, but it can keep skin moist, smooth and less scaley. UUMM...yes please...(hand reaches into a bag of dark chocolate chips).

Go here for more info. on how great choc is ;).  You're welcome.

If you do want to keep the gross cottage cheese (which when you eat the food kind,is also good for your skin) at bay here is a great chocolate mask for you.

Chocolate face mask recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of heavy cream (sour cream will work as well)
  • 3 teaspoons of oatmeal powder

Preparation

Mix all the ingredient until the mass in consistent. Apply on the face, gently massaging it so that oatmeal can start exfoliating the dead skin cell layer. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

In case you are wondering, there is a reason oatmeal and honey are added to this mix. Similar to its use in body scrub recipes, oatmeal it is recommended for sensitive skin, but can be used in preparation of facial masks for any skin type, as well as for preparation of facial exfoliants as it is gentle on the skin, yet highly powerful.

The added honey is great for skin, it helps open up pores and has great anti-bacterial properties.

P.S. Avocado is super good for your skin too!  (we didn't add it and now we made it feel bad...s0rry Avocado.. we didn't want our readers to fall asleep!)

Now get out there and eat well...look great and feel amazing!

Fashion Flash Friday: We heart Reptile Prints!!

Sitting here in the hot-ass desert that is the fabulous, Las Vegas (it is a desert, right?)  thinking to ourselves... (well actually drinking Lava Flows and chatting away)...

Miss Me:  "Wow it's so hot let's shed our clothes!"  (no sickos.... not nekkid but to our cutie bean bikinis and with a bit o' spf 30)
Miss T.W.H.: "Yes. please. miss me. asap!...let's shed 'um like a snake"
Miss Me: "Hmmmm, you may be onto something..."
At the same time: "Yummm!!  Snakeskin!!!"  (the fabric kind..not the real kind)

There is just something so super rad about snake and reptile print clothing, (if done right of course!)  and we don't mean when it is on spandex or leather... we just mean amazing pieces in done in a fun print.

Now, we all know how leopard print can either be uber fashionista or uber hookerista and the line is very distinct... well it's the same with snake or reptile prints.
One wrong turn and you are headed to a cheesy discotheque,
(this is the wrong way to do reptile)

But go down the right path and you are chic, chic, chic.  Not to mention a step ahead of the fashion crowd.

Our love started somewhere in the '90s when we were mere kids dreaming of fashion and creating looks from salvation army finds...but we were re-awoken (word?  if not, it is now) when we saw these ridiculously amazing dresses on a certain runway show in 2005.  Snakeskin!
Done in the most beautiful designs, and fabrics.  So slinky yet sooo wearable and tres chic!  Yes Please!

Ever since then, we have been waiting patiently for the right moment in fashion to bust a move on snake prints and lovelies....it is time!
Here are a few of our favs at the moment....

Um, hello turquoise blue snake print dolphin '80s shorts!!!  You had us at...well, you had us at all of it!   80's, turq, snake and short shorts???  Done and done..  we are still trying to figure out a great outfit with these but so far we think a vintage tee and booties shall do the trick.  Just try not to pair with pumps (unless they are yellow or 80's) cuz these could take the bad turn.

Now, need your snake served a bit more mellow?  This Helmut Lang tee should be right up your alley.
Just a touch of snake and a sprinkle of cool.  Pair with great jeans or jean shorts or even a high waist skirt.  YAY easy peasy.

How about this super cute dress from Something Else by Natalie Wood?  So cute!
So summery and chic!  Pair with great flip flops (see our No Bueno for help) or fantasmic yellow gladiators and Hello cuteness!

Need a bit o' snakeskin for a glamorous night on the town or for a great party?  Look no further than Miss DKNY.  Great cut, great print and no one will dare to look this hot and fashion forward.  SO memorable.

Um and it was a certain some one's bday but the one thing she was drooling over were these amazing boots from Hunter and Jimmy Choo.

Now, she doesn't really need them but how fantastic would these be under, say an Xmas tree (they are for fall after all and she got sooo many generous gifts already).  P.S.  No Crocs were hurt in the making of these boots (YAY!!) they are fake.

Still not buying the whole reptile thing?  What about this great dress from Thayer?  Such a good piece!

Perf for summer with heels or flats and it can even go into fall with some tights and black pumps and a motorcycle jacket.  We say, great investment!  You should do our stocks (if we had any left).

OK, now the recession is tough, money is tight and fashion is well... mucho dinero... so how about taking a journey to Ebay city and picking up a piece there and making it your own? If you work it, it will work.

How great is this dress.  A perfect statement piece.  It says, "Hello, I am glamorous in a boho kinda way, but confident and sexy enough to stand out in a good way"
We really heart this piece from Jay Godfrey and VH looks great in it too.  Hey VH...it was our bday FYI.. :)  Just saying.

Go have fun with fashion!  That's what it's for!

xoxo t.w.h.
