Decor to Die For: Book...Book...who's gotta book. WE HEART DECOR BOOKS!

Although we are going to keep today's post short (hic up....advil...sunglasses...enough said) it will of course be all you need to get inspired to rehab your pad.

There is really no reason you shouldn't have the room, apartment or home of your dreams...(aaahhheemmm...we are speaking to you JN ;) )

You don't need tons of moolah to update and make your nest ridiculous. It just takes a wee bit of time, patience and smart shopping!

Oh.. the other thing you need to make your place of lovin' unbelievable and soooo chic is 1 or all of these F'n amazing design books we are bringing to you today. You're sooo welcome! It's our pleasure...No need for kisses...just buy us cashmere.

These books are soooooooo inspirational you will probably cry (the good kind). They are from the top 3 designers of all time and 1 from one of the chicest interior design editors around.

You won't believe how great your space will be with a lil help from the best.
Your friends gasp and say, "Wow...geez...someones doing well! You have such good taste! I am super jealous"

Then you say, "Yeah, I didn't know I was great at interior design...but one day I thought, huh I would like to redo my place and voila!"

But no one needs to know you are not design inclined (don't worry most are not...well, Miss Me is but she's a freak of nature)...they don't need to know you had crazy good help with the inspirational books we are about to show you.

From one of the best most understated glam designers...owner of the RIDICULOUS store Chapman Radcliff (which PS is now going away!!!!!) Ruthie Sommers.
There has been a wait list of sorts to get her book, The LA House, and no one knows why but we are suuuper sure it is well worth the wait.

Ruthie's designs are spectacular and oh soooo crave worthy!
Remember this black and turquoise kitchen? Sooooo easy to recreate for yourself!!!!

And how the hell can we get this couch you ask? Oh by grabbing an old couch at a flea market, buying some rad fabric and reupholster like you have never reupholstered before!
Or have someone do it for you ;)

Last night we were lucky enough to go to the new book launch for the goddess of glam....the hotness that is Kelly Wearster.

She has 3 amazingly inspirational (yeah...we know we need another word but that one is perfect so deal with it) decor books to help you on your way.

The queen of Modern Glamour ....
and Dame of less is NOT more.... her new book Hue will make you paint all of your walls and furniture faster than you can eat a plateful of Krispy Kreme doughnuts when you have PMS.

Oh and PS...yes she does look EXACTLY like this in person.

We were dying and wanted to kill her (in a good way!) She is ridiculously gorgeously amazingly beautiful all around.
Not sure if she is a real person or an android sent to Earth to make us feel ugly and untalented.

One of KW besties is another one of our besties...OK not besties, besties...but one of the most amazing designers ever to waltz into our hearts and homes...Jonathan Adler.

He is sooooooo good...every page in this book will make you cry tears of happiness.

His use of fun bright colors, mixed with modern chic pieces and fantastical pottery will cause your abode to explode with whimsy.

You need this book! It will change the way you decorate your space!

And who is KW and JA's bestie? Margaret Russel from Elle Decor!!!!

Elle Decor's book Style and Substance is filled to the brim with gorgeously glam and boho chic rooms to inspire even those who thinks decorating their home is silly.

Now for 2 books that are chalk full of gorgeous, amazing, inspirational, functional, drop dead fabulous, crazy chic, unbelievably luscious rooms and ideas...they will make your heart flutter and head spin!

If you miss Domino mag as much as we do, then grab their book. It is actually a tutorial about how to mix and match ideas and pieces for the perfectly imperfect home. Your place will look like you traveled the globe ;)

Ever had to grab ideas on line for your nest and kept getting routed to Apartment Therapy's sites? We hope so. They are AMAZING!

The best part about their site...all of the places they show you for inspiration are real peoples homes!

Now they have a book out to help you with any thing you need for designing your place!
Everything they show you is with in reach and totally doable and easy peasy to do!

PS You don't have to copy the styles in the book...just get ideas and have fun!
PPS When you are done, invite us over ;)

See you later decorators!!!!

xoxo t.w.h.

Color Crave: Watermelon!

You can pretty much count on Mother Nature to get it right.
And she sure got it really right with the bright watery pink and the light to dark greens of the delicious and beautiful Watermelon!

As pretty as these look (and taste) cut up in a bowl, why not bring this color combo into your home?

Here are some yummy examples of how to do just that.

From the late great Domino, we bring you a moss green velvet sofa in a silvery neutral room... with a splash of bright pink brought in with the arm chair.
It just livens the room up so much!

We are super in heart with this room.

Chartreuse walls, white bedding and then a very subtle little flash of watermelon in the beautiful headboard. WOW. I'm jealous.

This is a pretty dramatic room, but the use of all white furniture let the fun walls sing.

You could really feel like a pretty preppy watermelon loving princess in this room.

You got to love the bold color combinations going on in this room!
Chartreuse, pink, navy and creme.
Very bold, but it pays off.

And one of our decor crushes, Miss Ruthie Sommers lays her subtle hand on this rom and makes watermelon magic.

Really with the half green half pink upholstered armchair in the corner?
Really with the crazy pink footstool/coffee table combo?
Thank you Ruthie for always giving us inspiration.

Now, I am aware that this room is lacking the green to make it a true watermelon mix up,

But I fell for all the delicious white and creams and how nicely the watermelon pink adds a sweet pop of color. Maybe they just need to add a few green books into the cute pink piles on the table and viola!
(Plus the picture over the sofa is crazy cool!)

Same can be said for this amazing comfy looking sofa from a feature in Domino, Look how fun and bright that sofa is!

Now imagine this Madeline Weinrib rug underneath.
Yummy!

Or try building a room around Madeline Weinrib's beautiful watermelon pink
Westley rug.
(Westley rug)

How amazing would this green bamboo chair look on this rug?

Even if the rest of your room is neutrals try and add in a little juice with these watermelon hued accents.

Pillows are such an easy way to bring color into your home. You can always change them out when you get your next color crave.

Can you believe that we found this? This Rex Ray print is actually like a picture of watermelons.
The color combo and the ovals are spot on.
You can get one over at Mr. Adler's J'adorble shop

Also from the mad mind of Mr. Adler comes this insane bright pink throw.

Done for his Barbie collection, I think on a moss green bench this would most certainly bring out the watermelon in your home.

Decorating is fun! Don't be afraid to take some risks, chances are they will pay off!

Decor to die for: Preppy Chic!

Lilly Pulitzer, The Beverly Hills Hotel, kelly green and flamingo pink, painted white wicker chairs, sandy toes and Arnold Palmers, the A**hole bad guys in The Outsiders (not you Cherry Valence, you my dear are pure preppy gold), these are things that come to mind when I think of fantastic preppy chic.
Yes, it is true they are all amazingly too square to be hip, but iconic and lovable at the same time.

(Cherry & Ponyboy: I feel a random heart coming on!)

The amazing Lily Pulitzer then and now, she is the ideal laid back beach-preppy queen.

Lets take some inspiration from her use of bright colors and outrageous prints and dress our nests with a preppy flair!

Why not start with this statement maker, a Lily Pulitzer piano! Wow! I don't really have much more to say about this one.

For a subtler take on true preppy chic, I turn once again to my Decor guru, Ruthie Sommers. She nails this style right on the head. With class and flair and a touch of whimsy... God,  I have a girl crush! But seriously? Raspberry walls, white chairs with lime green cushions? I wish I could crawl inside her brain and watch it work!

And a softer version still, the color pallet is perfect! I could curl up in this soft seashell colored room and snooze the day away.
Oh, Ruthie you are good!

So what we can't all be Ruthie Sommers, Kelly Wearstler or Jonathan Adler... Who can? We can still be the best us we can be, and take all the beauty they create and put it together in our own little way.

This is where we call in what the Things-We-Heart gals like to think of as our little secret.... This dear readers, is when we turn to Pottery Barn Teen!! Oh yes, that is right my little decor lovers. The teens have it, at least Pottery Barn Teen has it, and by it we mean super cute furniture, lighting, rugs and bedding!

Take this adorable little doggie lamp, super chic and grown up. Could add just the right amount of "smile" to your desk. Or go for two of these and use them at your bedside.

Let me think, is there a way to have all three colors of these amazing nesting tables in one room? Because the colors are so amazing and perfectly preppy. Hmmm I am thinking buy the green and the pink and pull a swap, so the green nests inside the pink and vice versa, perfect for bedside tables. (On which you can set your new doggie lamps!)

So sweet, so simple, this flower chandelier is just what I would put in a little girls nursery, or in a cute and girly bathroom. Looks like one you would find at a flea market, but on the plus side, this ones wiring may actually work.

See, we were being truthful, Pottery Barn teen is amazing. Don't take our word for it, check it out your self.

If you want to take baby steps, and we get that, because jumping into a style is not easy. I think you should try these super adorable note pads from Kate Spade (Another Preppy Princess)
If these cuties don't get your heart singing the preppy praises, then you just need to spend an evening with the Prom King and Queen of Prep.... Thats right, our hearts are all aflame, ladies and gentlemen...

We give you....

Blair Waldorf & Chuck Bass.

And on that note, we say goodbye.
