Yummies! Birthday Cake!!

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to, cry if I want to... Cry if I want to...

Oh wait, I'm not crying!

But it IS my birthday and I'll not work if I don't want to, Not work if I don't want to...

Not quite as catchy as the original, but you get the picture.

Since we write these a day ahead.. I am speaking to you from the past. June 28th 2010.

And it is my birthday, so I will close the computer and go eat some cake!

It is yummy.

Yummies: Mon Petite Cherie

We know the old saying "Let them eat cake.." Well, we do... We really really do. If you set a cake in front of us.. It will be gone.

These days with a rash of baby showers and birthday parties.. We have had our fair share of cake!

But, who is to say what the right amount of cake is?

It is very easy to get carried away when you see a glorious giant birthday cake in front of your little face... And these days, well, these days cupcakes are come as big as your head!

So, in the name of portion control, and in all honesty just in the name of super cute girlie-ness, we are calling it now that Petit Fours are going to be making a huge comeback. Huge.

A quick history of the Petit Four.

Petit Four is french for small oven, there are two kinds of Petit Fours,

Petits fours secs (sec meaning "dry") include a variety of small desserts, such as special dainty biscuits, baked meringues,macaroons, and puff pastries. Petits fours glacés (glacé meaning "iced") are iced ordecorated in some way, such as tiny cakes covered in fondant or glacé icing, small éclairs, and tartlets.

Today we will be talking, and drooling over the Petits fours glacés.

We are planing a baby shower for a friend and oh boy, are we gonna stock up on these adorable and delicious little cakes. Because you honestly can't get much more fantastic sweets for a baby shower then neat (ie: girls in pretty dresses NOT covered in frosting) little single bites of goodness.

Hey friend with a baby coming.. Are you excited?

Don't worry we are going to order them... Because we are not half the bad-ass that the lovely lady from Vegan Yum Yum is.

Because once again you stun us with your vegan Martha Stewart ways... Your beautiful results and amazing step by step pictures make us shutter to think how our versions of your pastries would turn out.

Let them eat cake.... Birthday Cake!!!

Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Haaaaaapy Birthdaaaay dear little Miss t-w-h, Happy Birthday to you!!! 

So, our dearest darling partner is having a birthday tomorrow and we are so very excited for her!  We heart birthdays for many reasons; they give you the chance for a celebration of another year on this wonderful planet, the knowledge that as each year passes you get a little smarter and more confident about the person you are. 

But the absolute BEST thing about birthdays? 

You guessed it! The chance to eat delicious, frosted, layered, birthday cake!!! 

(Side Note: You are also allowed birthday cake on friends birthdays, a great reason to have lots of friends!) 

Now, we heart all kinds of birthday cake, but the best of all are the ones that are made at home. They are filled with lots of love and care, plus it must mean someone really, really loves you! So, even if you make your friend a homemade (Yes, we count from the "box" as homemade.) 

birthday cake and it turned out lopsided and crooked, that cake is still the best kind you can give. 

Of course any cake is made extra special with the use of a beautiful cake stand. Talk about making something look super schmancy (You know that should be a word) without much work.  The Things We Heart Girls go weak in the knees for a good cake stand. 

But, a non-perfect cake, well, that would never be the case for my sweet partner.  She is like a hot, young, stylish Betty Crocker, this girl bakes her friends adorable scrumptious cupcakes and then brings them over in a Bake & Carry! Lopsided cakes is not even a idea she can comprehend.... But I just know if I made her one, she would think it was fabulous! That is what makes her, well, her. 

Yummy chocolate cake, with beautiful, tapered pastel candles on a clear glass cake stand... Happy Birthday lucky lady! 

So today I salute two things I heart, cake & my friend.
